The journey to the Texas Women’s Championships began for Donavon, Sid and I about 4 am Saturday morning. Donavon and I operating on a couple hours of sleep due to last minute preparations decided it would be best for Sid to drive since he had got the most sleep. By now your probably wondering why three Men would be headed to an all Women tournament, well let me take the the time to express my appreciation to the two Ladies who got three guys involved in such a wonderful event.
I’m not real clear on who suggested that our Club sponsor a Girly Station/ Ladies lounge because at my age you just sometimes forget things. But what I do remember is that it was Team DiscQualified’s chance to show our appreciation to the Ladies of our Team.
Haleigh Sowerby is our newest Lady of the team. Haleigh has accomplished many great things since we have first met. In 2009′ she had six First Place Finishes with a 5th place finish at the World Championships in Kansas City. She is a Two Time World Doubles Champion, 2009 and 2010. I have had the pleasure of knowing Haleigh for a few years now and have played many rounds of golf with her and her very new husband, Mr.Giles Sowerby. Haleigh has a well rounded game with a very bright future in Disc Golf and we are proud to say that we believe she will be the next Advanced Women’s World Champion if she doesn’t decide to go Professional first.
Paige Pierce joined our Team at The World Championships in 2009 in Kansas City. At the time she was playing in the Advanced Women’s Division and placed 3rd at the event. Paige like Haleigh is also a Two Time World Doubles Champion (2008 and 2009, partnering with Haleigh in 2009) and she also helped Team DiscQualified to Our first Victory at Texas Teams Championships in 09′. Paige has since then became a Professional Disc Golfer cashing out in 4th place at The Piney Woods Tournament in December of 2009′ in Tyler Texas. Paige is now sponsored by Millennium Discs, Paragon Disc Golf and Gorilla Boy Disc Golf. She has started her Pro Tour and you can catch her schedule on her fan page on Face Book. We are very proud of Paige and wish good things in her first tour. I am so glad to have gotten to know her and I thank Her father Barry Pierce for sharing her with us. We expect great things for Her because we Love her and I personally believe she is destined for greatness!
Our ladies participated in the Open Division at the Texas Women’s Championships 2010 and played their hearts out, Paige finished 10th place and Haleigh finished 12th, although they may not have finished as well as they had liked ,They Will Always Be #1 in our eyes. For the three amigos who got volunteered to Sponsor Fruit and Beverages to 100 Disc Golfin’ Ladies…., We Loved Every Minute Of It!!! Thank you to Haleigh and Paige and also to Vince Miller for allowing Team DiscQualified to participate in such a wonderful event…, you girls ROCK!!!!!
